A teaching aid is something that a teacher uses to help students to learn concepts easily and help them in developing their reading, communication and interpersonal skills. Teaching aids also makes learning fun and students more often than not enjoy learning through these aids. One of the most common types of teaching aid is charts. These charts are usually mounted on classroom walls and they depict some pictures or data in a simplified manner. Sometimes these charts contain graphs, diagrams, and symbols which help the students to learn faster. While teaching languages to children, teachers also use charts to help students with words and their definitions. As the charts are mounted on a wall, students find it easy to look at them and they are constantly reinforced in their minds.

Different Teaching Aids Another popular teaching aid across the world is flash cards. A flash card is a set of cards that has numbers, letters, pictures or words on it. Flash cards are usually used to enhance students’ memory. Teachers use flash cards and play games with students so as to help them memorize facts. This technique is popular amongst teachers who teach history where one has to remember many dates.

Apart from history, maps are popular teaching aids for learning geography. Maps help students to learn about places, their topography, climate and other related concepts in a way that gives students a greater understanding of the subject.

Graphs are also a wonderful teaching aid and can be used for various subjects. Teachers can make their own graphs. One can use graphs to help students compare the population of various cities or can even use them to understand the concept of ratios in math. Now-a-days, teachers can make their own graphs using computer programs as well. Innovative teaching aids like cartoon strips can also be used to make learning fun. This can be specially used to teach languages. Teachers can also indulge in role playing where students are asked to play characters and recite dialogues. Audio and video recordings are also a great teaching aid that helps in introducing or reinforcing on the subject being taught.

There are many different types of teaching aids that teachers can use to make learning fun amongst their students. However what needs to be kept in mind is the fact that while having fun, teachers should take care that the students are successfully able to understand the concepts.

Life as a teacher can be very exciting and challenging as one is constantly dealing with students, interacting with them, motivating them and imparting knowledge. Being a teacher is also considered to be quite noble because it is none other than teachers who lay the foundation for any student. As a teacher one usually prepares for the subject one is teaching before delivering a lecture and making students understand the concepts. Teachers also have to give assignments and projects that help them in practical learning. Teachers have to design test papers and check the answer sheets and highlight the mistakes that students are making so that they can rectify them. Most schools also require teachers to participate in extra-curricular activities along with students. Apart from this, teachers are advised to meet parents to keep them aware of their students’ progress.

Life as a teacher Most teachers choose to become teachers because they have an intrinsic desire to impart knowledge and this is one of the biggest reasons why people enter this profession. Teachers have a desire to make a difference in the lives of their students and hence teachers are most inspiring individuals in people’s lives. Most teachers have a very simple and a disciplined life as apart from their qualification they are good at time management skills, organizational skills and communication skills. Besides, teachers have to be role models for their students and hence most of them are perfect in their own way. A teacher must guide his or her students in goal setting and the way to fulfill those goals.

Life as a teacher can also be very enriching and enthusiastic. Teachers can affect how students perceive the syllabus. It is believed that teachers who show enthusiasm towards the course material can create a positive learning experience in the class. Also, teachers feel good when their students fare well and earn good marks/grades. A good teacher is one who; apart from the subject that they teach; make students learn the values of life such as honesty and integrity. Teachers that show excitement in a class can help students to be engaged and interested in the subject matter. An enthusiastic teacher has the ability to be very influential in students’ lives. Thus, life as a teacher can be very rewarding and satisfying especially for those who live for the love of knowledge and believe in imparting it amongst the young generation. Teachers are also being paid well especially after the private sector contribution in the field of education.

There is no denying to the fact that teaching is one of the noblest professions as it is none other than teachers who lay the foundation for children in their formative years. Not just that, teachers are the ones who educate us and impart knowledge so that we can become responsible citizens. There is a lot that goes into the field of teaching. Apart from the necessary education and the qualification required to become a teacher, one needs to have great communication skills in order to interact well with the students. One also needs to be a keen observer as a teacher so as to bring out the best in your students.

Introduction to Teaching Teaching is one profession where one experiences greatest amount of professional satisfaction. There is no greater joy to a teacher than seeing his/her students succeed. Now-a-days with privatization in the education sector, monetary rewards to a teacher are also higher than what they use to be. There are various methods that a teacher adopts to impart knowledge to their students – while some prefer conducting workshops others prefer to explain concepts with examples. New means and methods are now being used to educate students and emphasis is being laid on practicality than relying only on theory.

Teaching can be chosen as a career option at various levels. One can opt to be a teacher for imparting pre-primary education or can teach to high school students or even become a professor and teach students who are pursuing their post graduation. So what are essentially the prerequisites for becoming a teacher? Well, first a fall one the basic skills required are patience, ability to comprehend and ability to explain concepts to students, communication skills, leadership skills, management skills, ability to motivate and become a role model for students etc. Apart from this, there is educational qualification such as B.Ed. or the like that is required to become a teacher. However, one must remember that becoming a teacher may be easy but it is a huge responsibility that one is carrying on ones shoulder and that this duty should be done with diligence.

Teaching students may not be that easy a job. It requires a lot of dedication and effort to give attention to each student and help him or her to grow and learn. Each kid learns at a different pace and hence the ability to educate them all without becoming partial is indeed challenging. But this challenge is what drives people to motivate themselves as teachers and in turn inspire the children learning under them.
